COLUMBUS, Miss. – Mississippi University for Women could not get its offense on track Thursday evening, suffering a 72-28 loss at home versus Blue Mountain College.
The output was The W's lowest game point total of the season. The team was held to single digit scoring in each of the first three quarters. The Owls shot just 28 percent for the game from the floor, while a hot Toppers club managed 40 percent shooting, overall. BMC hit eight treys, while The W went 0-for-7 from beyond the arc.
For the third-consecutive game, junior forward
MG Chamberlain led the Owls in scoring. Chamberlain hit 5-of-12 field goal tries, finishing with 11 points. She was the lone Owl to score in double figures.
Freshman
Maddie Guerin had a nice game with nine points and a team-leading seven rebounds on her ledger. Guerin was an efficient 4-of-7 shooting. She also had three blocked shots and a pair of assists.
Senior
Rokila Wallace – seeing her first action since December 17 – was held to a season-low of four points, well below her average of 22.8 points per game coming into the contest. Wallace did lead MUW with four assists and also made a pair of steals.
Jasmine Shaw and
Cassidy Murphy each had two points to round out The W scoring. Shaw also had a block, while Murphy was credited with two assists.
The W will return to action on Saturday, hosting Toccoa Falls College. Tip-off at Pohl Gym is slated for 2 p.m.
