COLUMBUS, Miss. – The Mississippi University for Women's softball team found the going tough versus NAIA foe Louisiana Christian University, dropping both ends of a home double header. The Owls (6-6) lost to the Wildcats (13-3) by scores of 15-0 (5 inning run rule) and 4-0 at Don Usher Field.
After a run in the top of the first, an eight-run second completely turned all momentum to the visitors.
The W offense was held in check until the bottom of the fourth, when
Anna Sandlin's single through the left side of the infield broke up the no-hitter. Sandlin's base knock would be the Owls only hit of the game.
Kaitlyn Parrish took the loss for The W. She was chased after 1.1 innings and saw her personal record dip to 2-2 overall.
In the second game,
Amelia Stalter (3-2) went the distance for the Owls, but took the loss. Stalter allowed seven hits and four earned runs. She struck out five Wildcats and did not walk a batter.
Leadoff batter
Kaylee Quimby went 2-for-3 with a stolen base to pace The W's five-hit attack.
Jessica Deming,
Madison Crosby and
Makalyn Cowley had MUW's other hits.
The W will look to right the ship with a doubleheader at Huntingdon College on Saturday (March 5) in Montgomery, Ala.
