COLUMBUS, Miss. - The Mississippi University for Women played its final home contests of the 2021-22 season and paid tribute to the program's six seniors, playing their final match on the Garrett Tennis Court. The team's seniors included:
Mikey Duncan (Tuscaloosa, Ala.), Luis Leal Jr. (Ocean Springs, Miss.) and Zavier Minor (Columbus, Miss.) for the men, and;
Emma Potter (Nesbit, Miss.),
Nicole Rensink (Southaven, Miss.) and
Terraline Green (Meridian, Miss.) for the ladies.
Unfortunately for the Owls, Piedmont University topped The W in both the men's (0-9) and women's (3-6) matches.
MUW's women managed a win at No. 3 doubles, where Sarak Kackley and
Karen Calzadilla were 8-5 winners.
Calzadilla and Mallory Parker both had inspirational singles wins. Both went three sets to tame their Lions' opponent. It was their first collegiate wins versus and NCAA III opponent.
At No. 4 singles, Calzadilla lost set one, 1-6, bounced back to take the next two sets, 6-3, 10-4. Parker won set one at No. 6 singles, 6-3 and lost set two, 4-6, before winning the deciding third set, 10-4.
Kackley, playing third singles, also went three sets before losing her match. Kackley won the opener, 7-5, but lost the next two sets 6-7, 8-10.
