Box Score COLUMBUS, Miss. -
Conley Langford continued her torrid play of late, registering her fourth-consecutive double-double game, but it was not enough to rescue the Mississippi University for Women from a 68-40 loss versus Belhaven University (11-6), at Pohl Gym.
With The W's (0-15) loss of all-American post player (and leading scorer)
MG Chamberlain after last week's game versus Crowley's Ridge just the latest in a string of misfortune that has befallen the Owls, Langford's continued strong play was a welcome result. Langford's night included game-high totals for both points (16) and rebounds (13). 11 of Langford's caroms came off the defensive glass. The sophomore also led either team with five steals and three assists.
Ashley Cooper had a nice shooting game of 5-for-9 on her way to 13 points.
Freshman
Jas Patrick narrowly missed a double-double, herself. Patrick booked 10 points and hauled in nine rebounds. She also dished off three assists.
Other than a point from
Reagan Sonnier, the trio of Langford, Cooper and Patrick accounted for all of MUW's offense. The Blazer's bench outscored the short Owls' bench, 31-0.
BU out-rebounded The W by a 59-38 margin. With 26 of Belhaven's boards coming on offense, that resulted in 18 second-chance points for the visitors.
The W will next be in action Saturday (Jan. 28/2 p.m.) at Huntingdon College.
