Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Owls’ volleyball clipped by Hawks at home, 3-1

COLUMBUS, Miss. – Taking a break from its conference schedule, the Mississippi University for Women volleyball team hosted regional foe Huntingdon College and came out on the short end of a 3-1 decision at Pohl Gym. The Owls (4-12) lost to the Hawks (6-14) by set scores of 25-23, 21-25, 25-21, 25-19.

After MUW beat HC for the first time in its history back on October 5, a five-set thriller, it only figured that the rematch might be close, as well. All four sets were highly competitive, as demonstrated by a combined 16 ties and 11 lead changes during the contest.

Junior Amonie Silas led the Owls' attack with 14 kills and a healthy .242 attack average. Teammate Llayne Skinner contributed nine kills in a team-high 38 attacks. Skinner also had three service aces and 16 digs.

Maggie Griggs registered seven kills in her three sets played. Haley Ridings had two solo blocks, to go along with her five kills.

Senior libero – and Caledonia native - Madison Suggs had a match-leading 25 digs. She also had a .950 receiving percentage, making just one error in 20 receptions. Suggs also served up two aces.

Setter Hannah Duran booked 25 assists and nine digs.  Allison Carpenter joined Skinner with a match-leading three aces, as the duo accounted for six of MUW's 10 aces in the match.

The W will host a St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tri-match on Saturday at Pohl Gym. The Owls will play Fontbonne University at 10 a.m. and Webster University at 2 p.m., sandwiching a Fontbonne-Webster bout at 12 p.m.
