Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Tie versus Webster helps keep Owls SLIAC playoff hopes alive

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Mississippi University for Women men's soccer played to a 0-0 draw in a St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) match at Webster University on Sunday afternoon. The tie by the Owls (2-7-4, 1-2-2 SLIAC) versus the Gorloks (3-7-2, 1-1-1 SLAIC) keeps MUW's hopes to earn a SLIAC post-season berth alive by gaining a point in the standings.

With The W offensive attack sputtering – three shot attempts and none on-goal – goalkeeper Zach Seymour took the team on his back in the nets. The Gorloks probably wish they had seen less of Seymour.

The W netminder faced nine shots-on-goal and turned each away, several with spectacular saves. In all, the Gorloks took 21 shot attempts, 15 in the first half alone. Seymour also broke up several crossing passes in the box to thwart Webster, as well.

The W's best scoring opportunity came in the 78th minute. Nolan Owens took a pass deep in the Gorloks' end and, after a dribble, got past the last defender. Owens' uncorked a shot toward WU goalie Luke Dillon, only to have it zip to the left side of the goal.

Tres Ray and Cristian Canas had MUW's other two shot tries.

The four ties by The W men, thus far, in 2023 already equals the school record for most draws in a season. The 2019 Owls also had four tied matches.
