MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Mississippi University for Women men's soccer program opened its 2023 season – and the NCAA Division III era – with a hard-fought 1-0 road loss at regional-rival Huntingdon College on Friday evening. The Owls (0-1) matched the Hawks (1-0) in shots-on-goal with five.
Goalkeeper
Zach Seymour, making his first-ever start for The W, turned away four of the on-goal attempts. Seymour's only blemish was a goal allowed with just three seconds remaining in the opening half of play. Three of his saves came in the second stanza, alone.
Overall, HC out-shot the MUW side by an 11-8 margin. The Owls had a diverse attack, with seven different players attempting a shot. Only newcomer
Mo Diallo had two shot tries, one on frame.
Gavin Gaudin,
Tres Ray,
Dameon McElroy, and
Victor Gomez all joined Diallo with having a shot denied by Hawks' net-minder Braden Ross.
The W will look to notch its first win of the season on Sunday at Piedmont (Ga.) University.
