LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Mississippi University for Women saw its modest two-game St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) win streak snapped at two with a 66-54 league loss at Spalding University's Columbia Gym. The Owls fell to 4-6 overall and 3-3 in the SLIAC, while the Golden Eagles improved to 5-9 on the year and 3-4 in the SLIAC.
The W led after one quarter, 14-11. However, it was Spalding "winning" each of the final three quarters. MUW trailed by five, 32-27, at the intermission. There were five ties and seven lead changes in the early going before the host Golden Eagles took the lead for good with 5:26 left in the second quarter.
Junior transfer Leak had her best game as an Owl, matching game-high scoring honors with her season-best of 18 points. Leak was 5-of-11 from the floor and drained 4—of-7 from beyond the arc. She also had six rebounds for the fourth-straight game.
Conley Langford registered her 10th game in as many outings this season in double-digits points, booking 13, and her 18th in a row in double figures dating back to 2022-23. She also hauled in seven boards and made a pair of steals.
Zoe Essary narrowly missed a double-double by corralling 12 rebounds – 10 on the defensive glass – and scoring nine points.
The W had its worst shooting night of the year, hitting just 24 percent (14-59), resulting in the squad scoring 16 points below its offensive average of 70 points per game. Conversely, the Golden Eagles tallied 11 point higher than their 55 points-per-game average coming in.
The Owls will look to return to the victory column on Saturday (Jan. 13/1 p.m.) in another SLIAC match-up at Greenville University.
