COLUMBUS, Miss. – The W men's soccer found itself on the wrong end of a 5-0 shutout, in a St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) match versus Fontbonne University at the Roger Short Soccer Complex. The Owls fell to 0-12-0 overall (0-4-0 SLIAC), While the Griffins improved to 3-11-0 overall (2-3-0 SLIAC).
Fontbonne opened scoring in the 9th minute and tallied again in the 20th minute, as the contest was still a manageable 2-0 at the half. But the MUW offense could not get going in the second stanza, as the Griffins added tallies in the 57th, 64th, and 83rd minutes for the 5-0 final score.
Trey Parnell led the Owls by taking three of the squads seven total shots, with one on goal.
Ethan Barnes and
Cristian Canas each had one shot on-goal, as well.
For the match, Fontbonne out-shot the Owls by a 26-7 margin, 12-3 for attempts on frame.
The W goalkeeper
Antonio Romero had seven total saves. Two Griffin goalies combined for three saves.
MUW will next play a SLIAC match at Principia College on Thursday (Oct. 17/8 p.m.) in Elsah, Illinois.
