COLUMBUS, Miss. - As might have been expected, The W women's soccer was defeated by St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) leader Webster University, 3-0, at the Roger Short Soccer Complex. But despite the Owls' (3-10-2, 2-4-0 SLIAC) offensive struggles versus the Gorloks (11-1-3, 6-0-1 SLIAC), its defense gave a fairly good account of itself.
MUW remained locked in a scoreless battle with the SLIAC frontrunners for more than 39 minutes before WU would finally tally. Webster added another goal in the 44th minute to give the visitors a 2-0 cushion at the intermission. The Gorlocks third goal of the day came in the 48th minute, as the Owls' defense – led by
Anna McKee,
Haley Kelley,
Andi Brabham, and goalkeeper
Alex Moon - would thwart Webster's aggressive attack for nearly an additional 42 minutes to close out the contest.
Moon finished the afternoon with 19 saves. It was the second-most saves in a match for Moon's career as an Owl.
In all, the Gorloks outshot The W by a 32-1 margin overall, as the guests leveled 22 shots on goal. McKee had MUW's lone shot try, which was saved.
The Owls still remain in contention for a SLIAC post-season berth, currently holding firm to the No. 6 slot, four points ahead of the seventh place squad from Eureka.
