Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Owls topped at Millsaps, 85-66

JACKSON, Miss. – For the second time this season, The W women's basketball dropped a non-conference matchup to Millsaps College, falling 85-66 on the road. The Owls (1-5) had, previously, lost to the Majors (7-1) – a 2023-24 NCAA III playoff team - in the 2024-25 season-opening game in Columbus, as well.

Despite the loss, the game had a much different feel than did the first encounter back on November 15, where MUW suffered a 49-point (92-43) defeat and trailed by a whopping 50-12 margin at the half. In Sunday's rematch, the Owls led the first four minutes of the game and trailed by just six points, 43-37, at the intermission.

But a sluggish third quarter proved to be The W's undoing, as Millsaps would out-score the visitors by a 23-7 margin to pull away. MUW countered by outscoring the Majors in the fourth stanza, 22-19.

Junior transfer Calysia Phillips led The W by registering her second double-double game in as many days. Phillips had a game-high 26 points and 11 rebounds. Phillip was 11-for-25 from the field – including three made from beyond the arc – while also topping the Owls with six assists and three steals.

Senior Reshya Hudson - a native of Jackson – enjoyed her "homecoming" with a 15 point game, as the 6-foot-1 center went 3-for-3 from long distance. She was 6-of-9, overall, from the floor.

For the second game in a row, senior guard Conley Langford had a good first half, only to get bottled up in the final 20 minutes. Against Millsaps, Langford poured in nine first half points, but finished with just 11 for the afternoon. Langford did match Phillips for high steals honors with three thefts of her own.

Claire Leak and Maddie Guerin each tallied six points. Leak hauled in seven rebounds, as well.

Zia Shields' two points rounded out the Owls' scoring. MC's bench scoring topped The W's by a 35-2 count.

The Majors also took advantage of MUW's aggressive defensive tactics, breaking The W press for several easy layups that resulted in a 48-to-24 margin for points in the paint.

The W will next be in action on Thursday (December 5/5:30 p.m.) in a SLIAC bout at Westminster College in Fulton, Mo.
