Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Owls steamroll SBC, 98-56, for second-straight win

COLUMBUS, Miss. – The W men's basketball led wire-to-wire in a blowout, non-conference, win over Southeastern Baptist College, 98-56, at Pohl Gym. In the final contest of calendar year 2024, the Owls (4-6) had their biggest offensive output of the season versus the Chargers (0-11).

It was one of those days were the final result was never much in doubt. MUW built a 55-20 advantage by halftime. In the second half, The W extended that margin, leading by as many as 50 points with seven minutes remaining.

The Owls also held a commanding rebound margin, 50 to 29. That resulted in a 22-9 difference in second chance points, as well as a 50-24 disparity in MUW's favor for points in the paint.

All 13 roster players had at least one rebound for the Owls. 12 of the 13 scored points, as well.

Fifth-year senior guard Chris Evans led MUW in scoring for the second time in as many games, topping a quartet of players in double figures. Evans finished the night with 17 points. He was 6-of-9 overall from the field, including 5-of-7 from beyond the arc.

Fellow fifth-year player Dariun Doss was a tidy 6-of-8 shooting on his way to 16 total points, also converting 4-of-4 free throws. Doss also pulled down six rebounds.

Trent Walker connected on 5-of-9 from the floor – canning 2-of-4 from long distance – to book 13 points. Walker had a nice all-around effort with five boards, two assists, and three steals.

Eric Bass Jr. rounded out the Owls' double-figure scorers with 12 points, hitting 4-of-6 from the field. Bass also reeled in four rebounds and had a game-high four assists.

Pacey Mathews came off of the MUW bench to top his team with seven rebounds, while also contributing eight points.

The W had its best shooting game of the season at 55.2 percent (37-67). Defensively, SBC was held to just over 36 percent from the floor (20-55).

MUW will next be in action on January 4 at Lyon College in a St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest.
