Owls baseball splits at Huntingdon

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Mississippi University for Women baseball picked up a split in a non-conference doubleheader at Huntingdon College. The Owls (8-5) lost the opener to the Hawks (7-6), before claiming the nightcap, 4-2.

MUW's only offense for game on came on its first at-bats. Zack Egan's (2-3) bases-loaded single gave his team the quick lead, 2-0. But from there-on out, it was all Huntingdon as the hosts scored in each of the first five frames, including four in the first and three in the second.

Austin Telano had the biggest game from the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4. In all, the Owls collected seven hits – all singles – and the only player to get a hit in the game not named Egan or Telano, was Tyler Estabrook (1-2).

MUW starting pitcher Brandon Fenimore was tagged for seven earned runs and six hits in 1.2 innings.

Game two came down to great mound outing from Jackson Gantt (4-0), making his first-ever start for The W. Gantt went 6.0 innings and permitted six hits and just one run.

Connor Reilly threw the seventh inning for the save.

MUW was down 1-0 heading into the fourth inning when senior catcher Avery Benson (2-3) put the Owls on top, thanks to his two-run home run. It was Benson's team-leading fourth roundtripper of the season and second in the last three games.

Telano's (1-3) sacrifice fly in the fifth proved to be the game-winning RBI. A Baker Watson (1-3) RBI ground out in the sixth provided some insurance, as the Hawks plated one in the seventh for the 4-2 final score.

Egan remained hot in game two, as well, going 3-for-4 with a run scored.
