MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The W Volleyball slipped to .500 on the young season, losing a non-conference match at Huntingdon College, 3-0. The Owls (2-2) fell to the Hawks (1-7) by set scores of 22-25, 23-25, 22-25 at Roland Arena.
MUW hit well for the match, notching a .218 attack average. Unfortunately for the visitors, HC hit a bit better at .281.
For the fourth consecutive match, junior transfer
MC Brown led the attack for either team with 15 kills. She made just two errors in her 39 attempts, good for an attack average of .333. She added nine digs and served up two of the Owls' five aces on the night.
Madyson McBrayer and
Avery Watts chipped in six and five kills, respectively. Watts also finished with a nice .308 attack average.
Both of The W's setters –
Madison Wood and
Hannah Duran – finished with double-doubles totals. Wood tallied 20 assists and 12 digs, while Duran had 11 assists and 11 digs to her credit.
Libero
Bailee Schmitt was the match co-leader with 25 digs.
The two teams will meet again next Tuesday (Sept. 17) at Pohl Gym in Columbus to cap the home-and-home series for 2024.
