JACKSON, Miss. - The W Women's Soccer played Millsaps College to a 1-1 draw in a non-conference road match on Tuesday evening in what proved to be a fairly even bout. The Owls are now 1-5-2, while the Majors are 2-5-2.
"The team came together tonight to get a great result on the road," The W Head Coach Ana Ramos said. "We really started putting down more layers to our play and take those next steps. Abby (Warchus) had an incredible breakthrough goal with credit to the team maintaining composure and staying disciplined to finish out the play. Big credit also goes to our back line (I can't name 1-2 people this game. It really was a full effort-it was –
Alex Moon,
Avery Bartlett,
Anna McKee,
Haley Kelley,
Vanessa Murillo,
Andi Brabham, and
Callie Abraham - as they continue to step up time and time again. It's exciting to see everything start to click right at the right time."
The W held a 1-0 lead on
Abby Warchus' first goal of the season at the 23:57 juncture.
Callie Abraham received the assist on the tally that gave the visitors a 1-0 advantage. MUW would hold that lead through the first half.
The Owls limited the Millsaps opportunities early on, but in the 72nd minute the host Majors netted the equalizer.
The W had several opportunities down the stretch but, much like the Owls' defense, MC kept MUW at bay.
MUW goalkeeper
Alex Moon racked up eight total saves, forging her team's second tie match of the season.
Millsaps held a 21-to-8 advantage in total shots but, as has been the case much of the year, the Owls made better use of their shot tries. Millsaps put nine of its shots on goal (.428%), while The W had five shots on frame (a clip of .625%).
