COLUMBUS, Miss. – The W men's soccer scored first, but visiting Spalding University scored most often in a 5-1 St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) opener for both teams. The Owls fell to 0-7-0 (0-1-0 SLIAC), while the Golden Eagles improved to 4-3-2 (1-0-0 SLIAC).
It looked like it might be a different result for MUW when, just 2:29 minutes into the match.
Jordan Ware took a pass from
Josh Zuniga and found the bac of the net to give The W the upper hand.
But the Golden Eagles would finish the half on a tear. Spalding reeled off four unanswered goals in the period to carry a 4-1 cushion into the halftime locker room.
After a fairly even second stanza, SU added a tally in the 72nd minute for the 5-1 final score.
MUW fond itself ot-shot by a 24-7 count for the evening, 16-2 shots on goal. Ware and

Antonio Romero had 10 saves and was responsible for all five goals allowed.
MUW will next be in action on Monday (Sept. 30/5 p.m.) at home versus Ecclesia College.
