COLUMBUS, Miss. – All 16 rostered players etched their name in the scorebook, as The W women's basketball won its second-consecutive St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) game, 81-43, over Blackburn College. The Owls (3-11, 2-5 SLIAC) took the lead for good versus the Beavers (1-14, 0-7 SLIAC) less than five minutes into the game and never looked back before the home crowd at Pohl Gym.
MUW's pressing defense continues to become stronger as the season goes on. Against BC, The W ladies forced 36 turnovers, 19 of which were unforced errors, and had 17 steals. The Blackburn miscues were parlayed into 32 points by MUW.
While The W dominated the Beavers in virtually every facet, nowhere was it more evident than in rebounds, where the Owls had a 55-33 advantage on the glass. In its back-to-back wins, The W has out-boarded its foes by a 115-to-76 margin.
Claire Leak and
Calysia Phillips shared high point honors for the Owls, with 10 points, apiece. Leak added four rebounds and three assists to her stat line.
Meanwhile, Phillips notched a double-figure scoring effort for the 11th time in 14 games. Versus Blackburn, she hauled in three boards, had a game-high four assists, and made three steals.
Conley Langford inched closer to the 1,000-point plateau – tallying eight versus the Beavers – to raise her career total to 976 points.
Natalie Valois came off of the bench to match Langford's eight points.
Center
Reshya Hudson topped all rebounders with 10 caroms, to go along with her six points.
Aaliyah Moody added eight rebounds, seven points, two steals, and a block. Twin sister Leileigh chipped in five points, two steals and a pair of blocks.
TK Jones led all players with four steals.
The W caps its four-game homestand on Saturday (Jan. 18/1 p.m.) by hosting Eureka College.
