GREENVILLE, Ill. - The W women's basketball had its three-game winning streak snapped in a, 77-60, St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) loss at league co-leader Greenville University. The setback dropped the Owls to 4-12 (3-6 SLIAC), while the Panthers improved to 8-8 (6-3 SLIAC).
Senior guard
Conley Langford not only topped all scorers – tallying 26 points – but hit a career milestone early in the contest. At 5:14 of the first quarter, Langford booked the 1,000th point of her MUW career on a layup off a deft pass from teammate
Claire Leak. In her 56 career games as an Owl, Langford now has 1,019 points (an average of 18.2 points per game).
For the night, Langford hit 8-of-17 from the floor and was 6-for-11 from beyond the arc. She went 4-of-6 from the free throw stripe and also pulled down four rebounds.
Trailing by as many as 15 points early in the second quarter, the Owls needed Langford's touch as they battled back. With 18 of her points coming in the first half, a Langford three-ball as the half came to a close cut the deficit to just four points, 37-33.
Through three periods, The W nudged even closer, trailing 51-49. But a fourth-quarter stall derailed MUW's upset bid. The Panthers opened the final stanza on a 15-0 run to create separation by the 5:00 mark.
Maddie Guerin had a season best 18 points for MUW. Guerin went 6-for-11 from the field, overall, and drained three treys, as well. She also grabbed five rebounds.
While leading scorer
Calysia Phillips was held to nine points by the GU defense, well below her season average of 18.4 p.p.g., she became the squad's distributor with 10 assists. Leak had three points.
Quay Dorrough added four points, Dorrough and
Reshya Hudson each hauled in six rebounds. No other Owls scored in the game.
The W will next travel to Spalding University in Louisville, Kentucky, on Saturday (Jan. 25/12 p.m. CT).
