Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Owls women’s basketball thwarted by PCC

COLUMBUS, Miss. – The W women's basketball could not find its footing on either end of the court in its 91-60 non-conference loss a home to Pensacola Christian College on Saturday afternoon. The Owls dropped to 0-4 on the young season, while the Eagles upped their record to 4-3, overall.

In the opening quarter, MUW's offense was the one working best, hitting 8-of-17 from the field and staking then hosts to a 19-15 lead. But from that point on, there was a role reversal, as PCC's defense clamped down on the Owls, who finished shooting a tic under 30 percent (20-67) for the day. Meanwhile, the Eagles shot 53 percent (35-66) from the floor, but really separated themselves from beyond the arc, where they were 13-for-32 (41 percent).

The W trailed by 10 at the half, 40-30, and PCC extended its cushion in each of the final quarters. MUW committed 26 turnovers, which were converted into 22 points by the guests. While MUW out-rebounded the Eagles for the game – 43-41 - PCC had 32 defensive caroms, which led to a 19-to-6 advantage in fast break points.

Mia Bowen led The W's offense with 14 points, buoyed by a 6-for-7 mark from the free throw line (where MUW made good on 17-of-23 as a unit). Bowen also grabbed seven rebounds.

Trinity Hamilton came off of the Owls' bench to contribute 10 points, as the only other MUW player in double-digit scoring. Hamilton went 3-of-6 shooting and was 4-for-4 from the charity stripe.

Fantasia Wilson and Conley Langford booked nine and eight points, respectively. Wilson topped the Owls with five assists and four steals, as well. Langford added three assists and three steals, to go along with her team-high eight rebounds.

The W will have 10 days to regroup before traveling to Lyon College on November 29 for its St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opener.
