Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Owls jumped by Kangaroos, 57-54

JACKSON, Miss. -  For the second game in as many days, The W women's basketball tandem of Mia Bowen and Conley Langford produced double-double games. However, on Sunday the Owls (1-6) lost their contest versus Austin College (3-2), 57-54, at the Millsaps Thanksgiving Classic.

Early on, it looked as though MUW might run away with the game, jumping out to a 9-2 lead at the 6:34 mark of the first quarter after a pair of Langford free throws. But the Kangaroos bounced back and the teams swapped leads the balance of the opening stanza. A pair of MUW free throws to close out the first period gave it a precarious 13-11 lead over AC.

The second quarter is where the wheels came off of the proverbial wagon for the Owls, as Austin went on a 14-0 run and the Owls hit just 1-of-11 field goal tries. The W did not score a point in the second segment until another pair of Langford free throws with 35 seconds left before halftime, as well as a three-point basket from Jaraya Woodard, left The W trailing at the intermission, 25-18.

MUW was not able to get closer than one point in the third quarter and the Kangaroos maintained a two-possession advantage most of the fourth, as well.

Langford advanced her on-going school record with her 18th career double-double, finishing with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Langford drilled 3-of-7 from beyond the arc – the Owls made five treys as a team – and was 6-of-8 from the free throw stripe.

Bowen matched Langford's 17 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. She was 7-of-17 from the field, overall.

But Bowen's big stat was her six blocked shots against the 'Roos. Those six "rejections" gave her 27 in just seven games, thus far in 2025-26, already surpassing MUW's modern era career record of 22 set by Hannah Duran in two seasons with The W (2021-23).

Fantasia Wilson was The W's third double-figure scorer, adding 10 points. Wilson had a game - and Owls' season - high of eight assists, as well. She also had five steals to her credit.

The W will get back to SLIAC play this coming Thursday (Dec. 4/5:30 p.m.), when it welcomes Spalding University to Pohl Gym.
