COLUMBUS, Miss. – The W women's basketball had what was a competitive non-conference contest for three quarters versus Huntingdon College, disintegrate in the fourth period of an 88-60 loss at Pohl Gym. The Owls are now 1-10 overall, while the Hawks improved to 3-6.
MUW and HC split the two 2025-26 meetings, with the Owls winning 57-55 a little over two weeks ago at the Millsaps Thanksgiving Classic. But that win in Jackson probably felt like a distant memory in Monday's setback versus the Hawks.
The W led 16-13 after one stanza and the clubs were knotted at the half, 29-29. The Owls trailed by a still-manageable eight points, 55-47, through three. But in the fatal fourth quarter, MUW was outscored by a 33-13 margin and was just 5-of-18 from the floor (27 percent), including going 1-for-10 from beyond the arc, as Huntingdon pulled away.
Senior transfer
Mia Bowen rolled up her fourth double-double in the last five contests, posting team-high totals of 24 points and 11 rebounds. Bowen had two blocks, running her season total to 40 rejections in 11 games played.
Bowen went 10-for-20 from the field and hit 3-of-4 free throws.
Conley Langford was her team's only other double-figure scorer, with 11 points. Langford had a pair of treys and pulled down seven rebounds.
Jakayla Smith and
Kate Wilkins added eight and five points, respectively, and
Fantasia Wilson was held scoreless to round out the Owls' starting five. The Hawks' bench out-dueled MUW's reserves by a 31 to 9 count.
The W will next be in action on January 3 (1 p.m.) in a home SLIAC bout with Lyon College at Pohl Gym.
