ELSAH, Ill. – The W women's basketball found the going tough on the road in a St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) loss at Principia College, 94-45, at the Hay Field House. The Owls fell to 6-15 (5-9 SLIAC), while the Panthers improved to 12-9 (9-5 SLIAC) and solidified their third-place slot in the league standings.
MUW actually led the game after one quarter, 13-12. But after that, the host PC team put the pedal to the metal, leading at the intermission, 40-28. The Panthers outscored the Owls in the third quarter by a 28-4 margin to put the contest out of reach for MUW.
Senior
Conley Langford was the only player for The W to hit double-digit scoring, booking 12 points. All of Langford's points came in the first half. She shared high rebound honors for MUW, along with
Reshya Hudson, by grabbing six caroms.
Fellow senior
Maddie Guerin chipped in seven points and four rebounds ff of the Owls' bench. Hudson added six points and
Claire Leak five.
Meanwhile, Principia flexed its muscle with six players in double figure scoring. The Panthers also converted the 34 MUW turnovers into 44 of their points. The W was bested down low, as well, as PC had a 50-to-20 advantage for points in the paint.
The W will play the third of four-consecutive roads games next Thursday (Feb. 13/5:30 p.m.) at Blackburn College in Carlinville, Illinois.
