Johnny be good! Setchfield’s big game leads Owls win, 8-5

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Senior outfielder Johnny Setchfield had his best day of the 2025 season at the plate to propel The W baseball to an 8-5 non-conference win over Brevard College in the Firehouse Classic at Huntingdon College. The win upped the Owls' record to 3-8, while the Tornados fell to 4-10.

Setchfield was a triple shy of a cycle, going 3-for-4 – his first multi-hit game of the year - and driving in four of his team's eight runs on his own. He smacked his first home run of the season, a solo shot, with one out in the fourth. He then, added a two-run double in the sixth and an RBI single in the seventh.

And while Setchfield handled matters with the bat, senior teammate Landon Clark gave MUW six solid innings of work on the mound to improve his personal record to 2-0 on the season. Clark scattered six hits, allowing two runs. He struck out six and issued just one walk.

In all, The W banged out 10 hits and never trailed in the game. MUW plated a pair of unearned runs in the first, before Setchfield's blast in the third made it 3-0.

In addition to Setchfield, Zach Johnson and Baron Brack also had multiple hits versus the Tornados. Johnson went 2-for-3, including hitting his team-leading third double of 2025, and was hit by a pitch. Johnson scored three times.

Brack was 2-for-5 with a run scored and an RBI.

Catcher Avery Benson managed to reach base in all five of his plate appearances. Officially, Benson was 1-for-1 batting, but also drew a pair of walks and was hit by a pitch twice. He scored two runs, as well.

The W will close out tits three-game set in the Firehouse Classic by taking on host Huntingdon on Sunday (March 9/3 p.m.).
