JACKSON, Miss. – The W men's soccer lost its 2025 season-opening match at regional rival Millsaps College, 6-1, on Friday evening. The Owls (0-1) gave up three goals in each half to the Majors (1-0).
MUW tally came in the 51st minute of play by senior forward
Kyle Morris. Morris' tally cut the MC lead to 4-1 at the time.
Morris' goal was one of just three shots allowed by a tough Majors' defensive half. Conversely, Millsaps took 26 total shot attempt, with 11 directly on goal.
The W goalkeeping tandem of starter
Nick Gutierrez and
Cortland Earl combined for five saves. Gutierrez made two saves, and was charged with two goals, in his 31 minutes of work. Earl had three saves and allowed four scores, during his 59-minute stint.
The Owls will next travel to Montgomery, Alabama, on Sunday (August 31/1 p.m.) to face Warren Wilson College in a neutral-site match at Huntingdon College.
