CLARKSVILLE, Ark. – The W women's soccer saw its hopes of a season-opening win slip away midway through the second half of a 2-1 non-conference loss at the University of the Ozarks. The Owls (0-1) and the Eagles (1-0) were knotted 1-1 after the first half of play at the Wilson Soccer Field.
"We came out and competed well." MUW Head Coach Ana Ramos said. "Our goal came off of a compete team play, which is exciting to see our training transition to game situations. We are excited about what is to come and looking forward to our next game."
Ozarks tallied first, netting their first goal of 2025 at the 5:44 juncture. But MUW responded in the 25th minute. Owls' newcomer and junior transfer
Kailey Coleman, took a pass from senior
Abby Warchus and drilled the ball past Eagles' net-minder Jayla Lucas to knot matters at 1-1, as it stood until the intermission.
Although UO peppered MUW with 15 shot attempts, only four managed to go on-frame, thanks to the harassing defense led by
Avery Bartlett,
Adayah Wood,
Lucy Warner and
Emma Hall. Goalkeeper
Cam Lopez, making her MUW debut, had two saves.
Freshman forward
Ella Mercier had MUW's other shot on-goal.
Anna McKee also took one attempt, to round out the Owls' four tries for the match.
The W ladies will stay on the road to face Hendrix College on Sunday (August 31/12 p.m.) in Conway, Arkansas.
