LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The W women's basketball dropped its third-consecutive St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) game, losing at Spalding University, 80-57, at Columbia Gym. The setback dropped the Owls to 4-14 (3-7 SLIAC), while the Golden Eagles improved to 11-10 (7-5 SLIAC).
The Owls trailed at the intermission, 39-24, as host SU led the game wire-to-wire. MUW did not have an answer for Spalding's long-distance shots, as the Golden Eagles doubled up on the Owls, 12 to 6, from beyond the arc.
The W's lone player to reach double-digit scoring was fifth-year senior
Conley Langford. Langford finished the afternoon with 22 points, going 6-for-17 from the floor, including a pair of treys, and going 7-of-9 from the free throw line. Langford also topped her team with seven rebounds, three assists, and three steals to her credit.
Fellow senior
Mia Bowen – coming back from a leg injury on Thursday and getting into foul trouble versus Spalding – was limited to just 28 minutes on the floor, and eight points. Bowen did equal her own MUW single-game record with seven blocked shots, giving her a nation-leading total of 70 rejections on the season.
Rhianna Dinkins came off of the Owls' bench to chip in nine points and six rebounds. Freshman guard
Jakayla Smith also tallied eight points in the loss.
MUW was overpowered on the glass, with Spalding holding a 61-to-35 advantage in rebounds. To no surprise, that led to 17 second-chance points and 34 points in the paint by the Golden Eagles.
The W will next be in action at home on Thursday (Feb. 5/5:30 p.m.) versus Blackburn College.
