CARLINVILLE, Ill. - After playing to a scoreless draw in the first half, The W men's soccer saw its St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) match versus Blackburn College slip away in the second segment, 3-2, at Carlinville High School. The Owls fell to 0-12-1 (0-5-0 SLIAC), with the Beavers improving to 5-8-1 (2-3-0 SLIAC).
MUW was able to hang close to the host BC side, thanks to eight saves by goalkeeper
Will Rickman. Rickman had three saves in the first half and five in the second. The deciding goal came via a penalty kick awarded to the Beavers in the 74th minute.
Blackburn took a 2-0 lead by scoring a pair of goals less than two minutes apart, in the 67th and 69th minutes. In the 73rd minute, the Owls' Jaoa Pais drew his team to within one score, with his first goal of the season. The assist was credited to
Austin Ferguson-Tompkins, that made it 2-1.
After the Beavers' PK made it 3-1, MUW's
Simon Roth netted his team-best fourth goal of 2026, unassisted, in the 76th minute of play, 3-2.
But The W could not find the equalizer in the waning minutes, despite several tries.
BC doubled up on the Owls for total shots, 22-to-11, for the evening. But, as has been the norm, MUW shot for quality over quantity. 64 percent of the Owls tries were on-goal, while just 50 percent of shot attempts by the Beavers were on frame.
The W will next play on Saturday (Oct. 17/1 p.m.) at Greenville University.
