Lyon tamers! Owls women’s soccer caps season with 2-0 win at home

COLUMBUS, Miss. -  The W women's soccer team closed out the 2026 season on a high note, winning a 2-0 decision over Lyon College in a St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest at the Roger Short Soccer Complex. The Owls closed the books with a 3-11-1 record (2-6-0 SLIAC), while the Scots are 2-10-1 (2-5-1 SLIAC).

The MUW offense had another nice effort, matching its season high in shot attempts, with 24 versus the Scots. 13 shots, 54 percent, were on goal.  Conversely, Lyon managed just 11 tries, with just three on frame (27 percent).

After the two teams played a scoreless half, it was, fittingly, a pair of MUW's seniors combining on what would be the match-winning goal in their last collegiate match. In the 57th minute, Emma Hall took a pass from Asia Glass and punched the ball past Scots' goalie Sydney Wolf to give the hosts the 1-0 lead.

The W continued to play much of the match in the Lyon defensive third of the field, paying dividends once again in the 85th minute. While the Owls' first goal came from its veterans, the insurance goal came from its future: freshman Reagan Shinn.

Shinn blasted in her team-leading eighth goal of 2026 from 15 yards out to make it 2-0. Alison Ragoyta assisted, as the hosts iced the win.

The goal also elevated Shinn into seventh place in the entire SLIAC for goals scored.

The quartet of Kiersten Taylor, Shinn, Abby Warchus, and Hall peppered the Lyon net for 21 of the Owls' 24 total shot attempts as a team. Taylor had seven shots, while Shinn and Warchus had five apiece. Hall rolled up four attempts.

Meanwhile, Cam Lopez notched her fourth shutout of the season in goal for MUW. Lopez had three saves in her career finale between the pipes.
