The W men’s tennis tops Belhaven, 5-2, for 3rd-straight win

JACKSON, Miss. – The W men's tennis remained perfect in the spring portion of its season, with a 5-2 win at Belhaven University. The Owls are now 3-2, overall, after defeating the Blazers for the first time in program history, after going 0-6 since the 2018-19 season.

MUW dominated doubles to open the day, earning the team's first point. At No. 1 singles, it was Jorge Ortiz and Sandro Giangregorio winning, 6-1. Juan Garcia and Marcos Fernandez took second doubles, 6-2, while Alvaro Bardales and Josh Cooper also won, 6-2, at No. 3 doubles.

The Blazers won the Nos 1 and 2 singles matches, but that would be it for the host team. Down 3-2, The W reeled off straight-set wins at No. 3,4, and 65 singles, along with a split-set win at 6 singles.

Giangregorio, playing No. 3 singles, won by a decisive 6-1, 6-2 tally. Fernandez followed suit at No. 4, 6-3, 6-3.

Ahead by a 3-2 score, Bardales clinched the team win at fifth singles, 6-3, 6-1. Dylan Barber added icing to the Owls' cake at No. 6 singles, after losing set one, 6-4, bouncing back to win set two, 6-4, and the set three proset, 10-6.
