JACKSON, Miss. – The W women's tennis evened its 2025-26 season record at 2-2, thank to its 5-2 road win at Belhaven University. It was the Owls' second-straight victory, as well.
MUW began the match by winning the doubles point. After losing No. 1 doubles, The W picked up its needed points at No. 2 pairs, where
Bailey Flynn and
Austin Hays won y a 6-1 score, and at third doubles, where the Blazers forfeited to the Owls'
Emma Horton and
Harley Lowry.
BU took a 2-1 lead in the team score by winning Nos. 1 and 2 singles. But the resilient MUW squad was undeterred, sweeping all four of the remaining singles matches. At No. 3 singles, Flynn won in straight sets, 7-5, 6-2 to knot the team score at 3-3. Fourth singles was next of the court and the Owls'
Alaina Mathis improved to 4-0 on the season, thanks to her 6-1, 6-4, victory.
Ahead 3-2 on the board, MUW clinched the victory at fifth singles. Lowry split sets winning the first 6-3 and losing set two, 7-5. She took set three in a decisive manner, 6-3, to wrap up the match, with BU forfeiting No. 6 singles for the final 5-2 score.
