COLUMBUS, Miss. – The W tennis teams gained a split versus Huntingdon College in a non-conference doubleheader at the Garrett Courts. The Owls' men's team (5-3) defeated the Hawks, 5-2, but the women (2-5) fell by a 6-1 score.

The MUW men won their second-consecutive match, and fifth out of the six spring bouts, by topping Huntingdon for the second-consecutive meeting between the teams. The Owls began the day by earning the team point in doubles.

MUW lost No. 2 doubles, but took the remaining matches with Jorge Ortiz and Juan Garcia taking No. 1 doubles, 6-1, and Marcos Fernandez and Sandro Giangregorio winning No. 3 doubles, 6-3.

The W then took four of the six singles bouts to secure the win. The Hawks wins came at Nos. 1 and 4 singles.

The Owls picked up straight set wins at the Nos. 3, 5, and 6 slots, with wins from Alvaro Bardales (7-6, 6-1), Giangregorio (6-3, 6-2) , and Dylan Barber (6-1, 6-2), respectively. At second singles, Fernandez split sets with HC's Tyler Garcia, winning set one, 6-3, and losing the second set, 6-1, before a convincing 10-3 win in set three.

In the women's contest, junior Austin Hays, a native of nearby Caledonia, Miss., picked up her first singles victory with the Owls. Hays made short work of the Hawks' KJ Crow, 6-3, 6-3.
