BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The W freshman
Malachi Morgan broke his own school record for the men's high jump to highlight the Owls' day at the UAB Invitational at the CrossPlex.
Each week, Morgan's stock with MUW is going up, literally. Morgan cleared 1.99 meters (6'6 1'4") to raise his school standard by nearly five full inches from three weeks earlier. To put that into perspective, Morgan would have cleared The W standout men's basketball forward Tray Huguley with a quarter-inch to spare.
Morgan was seventh in a strong high jump field at UAB and now tops all St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) competitors by five and one-half inches. Morgan's mark is also th fourth-best in the NCAA III South Region and ranks #43 in the nation for NCAA III.
While no women's records fell, several competitors notched performances that placed them in the SLIAC's top-10 in their events. Sophomore sprinter
Armoni King ran the eighth-fastest SLIAC times in both the 200 meters (27.89) and 400 meters (1:05.64). Freshman teammate Cassidy Talley ran the No. 10 200-meter time (28.12) and the No. 9 400-meter effort (1:06.91).
Sophomore
Kamiyah Whiting ran a 2:50.36-minute clocking in the women's 800 meters at the UAB Invitational, good for the eighth slot in the SLIAC.
In the women's long jump, sophomore
Hali Sinegal and
Sacaria Wofford leaped to the Nos. 8 and 9 spots, respectively, in the women's long jump. Sinegal went 4.56 meters and Wofford 4.45m.
