COLUMBUS, Miss – The W track and field teams garnered three of the possible four awards for the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) Player of the Week honors, it has been announced. The awards cover the period of March 15-22, 2026, with the Owls' competing at the Belhaven Invitational last Saturday.

MUW swept both women's awards, with juniors Hannah Owens and Arie'Onna McCollum selected for track events and field events, respectively. On the men's side, freshman phenom Malachi Morgan won as the SLIAC field events top performer.

Distance specialist Owen won the 5,000-meter run at Belhaven in a school-record effort. Owens, running in her first meet of the season, topped her own MUW record with a clocking of 20:11.94 minutes, more than 17 seconds faster than her previous best (20:29.51) and has the SLIAC's second-fastest time this season in the 5K.

In the women's javelin, McCollum also surpassed her own record (35.27m) with a winning toss of 35.96 meters at Belhaven. McCollum was also fifth in both the women's discus and hammer throw.

In the men's long jump, Morgan had an MUW record leap of 7.06 meters (topping his 7.05m jump set two weeks ago).  Morgan was also the runner-up in the high jump (2.00m) and finished ninth in the 100-meter dash.

"We're happy to have Hannah back from a brief break from competing. She's looking great coming off of no competitions this indoor season," The W Head Coach Dedrick Burnett said. "Arie'Onna has been making great strides in all her events as she looks to keep improving as the season continues. Malachi has consistently jumped over seven meters in the long jump and two meters in the high jump. It's been pretty amazing to watch him excel over these marks."
