MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The W baseball took a respite from its SLIAC schedule to play its final non-league game of the season, losing a 12-6 decision at Huntingdon College. The Owls (17-14) lost both games to the Hawks (21-11) this season, also falling exactly two months ago on Valentine's Day, 10-6, at Neal Posey Field, as well.
HC took control of the game early, leading 4-1 after two innings and never looking back. The Owls did have an auspicious beginning as, for the fourth-straight game (all on the road), the team homered in the first inning. This time the solo blast was courtesy of designated hitter
Baron Brack, putting his seventh round-tripper of the year far beyond the right-field wall. Brack finished the game 2-for-5.
Senior outfielder
Zach Johnson continued his torrid hitting by going 3-for-5 versus the Hawks. Johnson had a double, scored twice and had one run batted in.
Bryson Barnes, making his second-consecutive start at third base, went 2-for-3, with a walk, run scored, and an RBI. In the last two outings, Barnes is 6-for-8 at the plate.
Griffin Fuller came off of the MUW bench to go 1-for-2 with a double.
JB Crumpton (0-1), the first of four The W hurlers used in the non-league, mid-week bout, took the loss, going 2.2 innings and allowing the first five runs.
Josh Mackey was the lone MUW pitcher not scored on by HC, throwing clean frames in both the seventh and eighth innings.
