COLUMBUS, Miss. - The W men's soccer had a rough go of things in its St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) opening match on Saturday, falling to Spalding University, 6-1, at the Roger Short Soccer Complex. The Owls are now 0-87-0 (0-1-0 SLIAC), while the Golden Eagles upped their record to 2-6-1 (1-0-1 SLIAC).
MUW found itself down 2-0 early. Spalding scored just 50 seconds into the contest and then, in the 12th minute, an "own goal" by the Owls made it 2-0. The W trialed 3-0 at the half and then added three, second-half tallies, as well.

Gracen Williams notched his first goal as an Owl in the 80th minute. Williams headed in a corner kick from
Joao Pais to make it the 6-1 final score.

The W will continue SLIAC play on Thursday (October 1/7:30 p.m.) at Eureka College.
