COLUMBUS, Miss. – The W women's soccer lost its St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) opening match, 6-0, at the Roger Short Soccer Complex on Saturday afternoon. The Owls are now 0-6-0 (0-1-1 SLIAC), while the Golden Eagles upped their record to 3-4-1 (1-0-0 SLIAC).
For MUW, the first half was, for the most part, not indicative of the final score. The Owls played SU to a scoreless draw for the first 42:30 minutes of the contest, when the Golden Eagles tallied what would be the lone score – by either team – of the first half.
But in the final segment, The W saw the visiting Spalding side push in five unanswered goals to thwart MUW's comeback hopes. The Golden Eagles scored the first of its second have quintet at the 48:50 juncture and, within 30 minutes, had made it the final 6-0 count.
The Owls had three total shots on-goal for the match.
