YEARS AS THE W HEAD COACH IN 2023-24: 5th
Drew Johnson took the reins as the head coach of the Owls women's basketball team in 2019-20. Prior to taking over the role as head coach for the women's team, Johnson served as a graduate assistant coach for the Owls men's team for the 2018-19 season.
The 2022-23 team (0-18) endured a rash of illness and injuries which depleted its roster. However, the Owls still earned the respect of its USCAA peers with a pair of second-team All-Americans in Conley Langford and MG Chamberlain, and Jas Patrick an honorable mention choice. Langford was also the USCAA Student-Athlete of the Year. The squad sported three USCAA All-Academic Team members, as well.
Faced with a rebuilding process due to COVID, Johnson's 2021-22 team posted a 3-15 record and dropped some tough games along the way. However, the team still produced a pair of USCAA All-Americans in senior Rokila Wallace (first team) and Chamberlain (second team). As a team, the Owls had a 3.41 team GPA in the Spring of 2022, with senior Katie Beth Williams named USCAA All-Academic.
The 2020-21 season (0-3) saw the year decimated due to COVID.
Johnson finished his first year as a head coach during the 2019-2020 season with a 7-16 record. During that season, The W had major victories over D-III opponents Sewanee - The University of the South and Centenary College, NAIA opponent Tougaloo College, and fellow USCAA institution Judson College.
Under his leadership, senior forward My'Neka Frazier was named to the USCAA All-American First Team, and junior guard Katie Beth Williams was named to the USCAA All-Academic Team.
Johnson and his wife Taylor reside in Caledonia. The couple welcomed daughter Zoey Ray in July 2023.
