PULASKI, Tenn. - Mississippi University for Women volleyball was defeated by a veteran University of Tennessee-Southern (formerly Martin Methodist College) squad, 3-0, at the Curry Athletics Complex. The Owls fell by set scores of 17-25, 9-25, 15-25 to the Firehawks (13-7).
An experienced UTS team, sporting 14 juniors and seniors on its roster (compared to MUW with 10 freshmen and nine sophomores among its 21 roster players), proved tough at the net for the Owls. The Firehawks hit a strong .317 on the attack, while limiting The W to negative numbers for its hitting percentage.
Llayne Skinner had four kills in 19 attack attempts, both team-leading totals for the match. Skinner also made five digs and had one block for the afternoon.
Sarah White and
Maggie Griggs had two kills, apiece. Griggs, along with
Madison Suggs and
Jasmine Kelly, each had a service ace.
Setters
Camryn Johnson and
Hannah Duran had four and three assists, respectively. Each had six digs to their credit, as well, to lead the Owls in that category. Duran also booked The W's only other lock of the match.
The Owls will next host Lane College on Monday (Oct. 4). Start time at Pohl Gym is slated for 6 p.m.
