KEENE, Texas - For the third-consecutive match, The W men's soccer team blanked its opponent, this time posting a 3-0 victory at Southwestern Adventist University. Dating back to the Owls' last goal allowed (versus Rhodes), the side has gone 291 match minutes without allowing the opposition to breach their nets.
During the three shutouts, MUW has out-scored its foes by a 9-0 margin. Overall, it marked The W's fourth shutout of 2021.
All three wins – in addition to The W defense being impregnable – has a common thread of having freshman
Vini Lopes scoring a goal in each. Less than three minute into Monday's bout, Lopes netted what would prove to be the match-winning goal and all The W needed.
That gave Lopes a team-leading 12 goals scored this season. He ranks second in the USCAA statistics for goals scored.
Victor Gomez earned his first goal of 2021 in the 19th minute, upping The W lead to 2-0. In the 25th minute,
Pedro Santana tallied his third goal of the season with fellow Brazilian
Paulo Carneiro assisting, giving MUW some insurance.
The MUW dominance was displayed by out-shooting the Warriors, 14-1, for the match. Six of the Owls' attempts were directly on frame.
The W will look to extend its string of clean sheets on Friday, when the side travels to Pensacola Christian College.
