Owls fall in first of two-game set at Hendrix, 74-55

CONWAY, Ark. – In the first round of a two-game series at Hendrix College, the Mississippi University for Women dropped a 74-55 decision. The Owls fell to 1-10, while the Warriors upped their record to 4-5 overall.

Rokila Wallace scored in double figures for the 11th time in as many games this season to pace The W. Wallace poured in 23 points on a 9-for-22 shooting effort from the field, also nailing a pair of treys. Wallace topped the Owls in rebounding, as well, cleaning the glass for eight caroms. She also had three assists and two steals.

It was Wallace's third-consecutive contest with 20 or more points and seventh overall.

Hannah Duran and MG Chamberlain had identical 4-of-11 efforts from the field, with both garnering 10 points in the scorebook. Duran also had four rebounds and two assists. Chamberlain pulled down three boards and blocked a pair of Warrior shots.

Jasmine Shaw was an efficient 4-for-6 shooting, on her way to nine points. Shaw added two rebounds, two assists and a steal to the MUW totals.

Freshman Jaycee Haynes' three points rounded out the MUW scorers.

The W trailed by 17 (58-41) with 1:57 left in the third quarter. However, the feisty Owls went on a 10-2 run extending into the opening seconds of the fourth period to draw to within nine points, 60-51, with 9:52 to play.

MUW would be able to get no closer, however, as Hendrix quickly built its cushion back to double digits and maintained that margin the rest of the way.

The same two teams will square off again on Friday (Dec. 16) with a 2 p.m. tip-off in Conway.
