Women's Soccer Stalled By Statesmen, 8-0

COLUMBUS, Miss. – Senior forward Diana Okechuwu and junior midfielder Isabella Wade recorded a goal each in the first and the second halfs, as part of eight Delta State goals on Wednesday night in a 8-0 victory over the Owls women's soccer team at Sprint Mart Field.

Okechuwu's first half goal came in the 15th minute while her second half goal game in the 72nd minute. Wade scored goals at the 29th minute and in the 48th minute.

The Statesmen took a 4-0 lead into the half after a goal by Carra Hymel between Okechuwu and Wade's goal and Rainey Niles scored with just seconds left in the period.

The Owls best scoring chance of the night came in the 78th minute as junior defender Megan Brown maneuvered her way in to striking distance to only have the shot block by a Statesmen defender.

Mia Ramierez and Jennifer Lopez added goals in the second half to round out the Delta State scoring.

The Statesmen outshot the Owls 10-1 and had five corner kicks to the Owls zero. Delta State committed three fouls, two less than The W's five.

Owls goal keepers Sarah Gilliland and Caitlyn Fox split the time in the goal. Gilland started the game for four goals allowed and two saves and Fox closed for four goals allowed and one save.

The Owls will be back in action on Wednesday, Feb. 17 when they host Centenary College – Louisiana. Kick-off is scheduled for 4:00 pm.
