CLARKSVILLE, Ark. – The W women's soccer team lost its match to the University of the Ozarks on Saturday afternoon, dropping its first road game of the season in a 1-0 decision. The Owls move to a 0-2 record, while the Eagles see victory in their season opener.
Sarah Gilliland recorded five saves in the contest for 13 saves on the season. With just two matches this season, Gilliland averages 6.5 saves a game. The senior goalkeeper allowed the Ozarks one goal, a season-best for Gilliland, after a miscue at the 69-minute mark when Jayden Glover was able to score.
The Owls were outshot by the Eagles, 13-8, but The W was more accurate with its shots beating the Ozarks out in shots-on-goal 5-3.
Leah Anderson started for the second time this season and led the Owls offense with three shots, one on goal.
Lizzie Truelock and
Hannah Helms aided in the effort with two shots and one shot on goal each to round out the scoring effort.
The W will return home on Sunday, Feb. 7, when they host the University of West Alabama at 1 p.m. The game moves back to the Owl's Sprint Mart Field with live stream and live stats available at OwlsAthletics.com.
