ATLANTA, Ga. – The Owls baseball team split day two of the East Cobb Bash versus Trinity Baptist College on Tuesday, March 10. The W dropped game one 12-2 but took the second game of the doubleheader 7-6 in an extra-inning of play.
GAME ONE (12-2)
After scoring the first run of the game in the top of the first on a sacrifice fly by
Heath Ford, the Owls found themselves behind Trinity Baptist after the Eagles scored four runs on three hits in the bottom of the same inning.
TBC continued to add runs in the fifth, increasing its lead to 9-1 on four hits and one error. Then, Trinity Baptist added a run in the fourth and two runs in the bottom of the sixth for 12 runs total.
In the top of the seventh, John McGee scored for The W on a bases-loaded walk for the game's final run.
Trey Petite lead the Owls at the plate with three at-bats, three hits, and one run, while
Heath Ford and
Collins Brown collected one RBI each.
On the mound,
Kameron Ferguson was credited with the loss. The DeKalb, Miss. native pitched 2.0 innings for three strikeouts and seven earned runs.
GAME TWO (7-6)
After giving up four runs in the first and two in the second, the Owls refocused and rallied together to pull off a 7-6 victory in eight innings of play.
Starting off the scoring effort in the top of the first inning, Trinity Baptist scored four runs on four hits, leaving one runner stranded. The Eagles added two more runs on one hit and two errors to round out their scoring effort in the second.
The W scored its first run in the bottom of the second inning.
Logan Suggs scored on a passed ball after making it on base by hitting a double.
The Owls scored the second run in the third, with
Heath Ford coming on a sacrifice fly and
Blake Estabrook receiving credit for the RBI.
The W's most fruitful inning came in the fifth.
Collins Brown homered for a grand slam bringing
Logan Suggs,
Blake Estabrook, and Damian Benefield home to tie the score at six.
MUW finished the game in the bottom of the eighth, with
Matthew Bumpous scoring on a sacrifice fly by Damian Benefield to seal the win.
Ford lead the Owls at the plate, tallying three hits with four at-bats. After his bases-loaded home run, Brown led the team in RBIs with four.
On the mound,
Joel Estabrook was credited with the win. The junior pitched six innings for six strikeouts, and four earned runs.

The Owls will be back in action on Friday, March 12, when they take on Rust College in this season's home opener. The first pitch is set for noon at the Columbus High School baseball field.
