Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Canada, Lamon Lead The W in Sweep of Judson

COLUMBUS, Miss. – The W volleyball team picked up its second win of the season on Wednesday evening, sweeping the Judson Eagles 3-0 (25-18, 25-13, 25-21) inside Emma 'Ody' Pohl Gymnasium in Columbus.

Sophomore middle blocker Iyana Canada had 13 kills in the match to lead the Owls effort. The W as a team hit a season-high .237 in the game, guided by 16 assists from Madison Lamon.

The W's defense was also strong, as the Owls held Judson to .012 in the match and Loren Schmitt and Lacey Evans led MUW with 12 and 10 digs, respectively.

The junior varsity teams opened the evening. The Owls were victorious in that match as well. The W swept Judson 3-0 (25-12, 25-15, 25-20). Highlights from that match include Emily Lott with nine kills, Briana Huerta-Ramirez and Camryn Johnson with three service aces each, Evelyn Pruitt with 12 assists, and Madison Suggs with nine digs.

"[I am] very proud of the team tonight finishing both matches in three sets," said head coach Brooke Carter. "They have been working hard at practice to minimize the mistakes on our side of the net and to capitalize on their opponents' mistakes. Our middles came alive in both matches, and that really helped us keep the momentum. It was also nice that it would leave our three seniors with a great memory for senior night! Being a part of the original class that brought back athletics, they have been through many trials and seen many players come and go. They have no idea the impact they have made and the legacy they have created for Owls volleyball."

The W is now 2-7 on the year as the spring 2021 season approaches its conclusion. The Owls will travel to Jackson, Miss. to take on Belhaven College tomorrow at 5 p.m. and then will close the week in Longview, Texas, versus Letourneau University.
