COLUMBUS, Miss.– It was a thrilling home game on as sunny Saturday afternoon, as The W women's soccer team defeated Millsaps College, 2-1, at the Sprint Mart Field to earn its first triumph of the season.
The Owls scored their first two goals of the season in the contest to help defeat the Millsaps Majors.
Hannah Helms had an admirable evening, scoring the first Owls goal of the game in the 56th minute, helping the The W by tying the score,1-1.
Millsaps moved to equalize the contest in the 82nd minute, as Majors Ely Riley attempted a shot but it was saved by goalie
Sarah Gilliland.
Just seconds after,
Lizzie Truelock used her speed to gun through the Majors defensive line to score her first goal of the season.
Sarah Gilliland in the net rallied 4 saves in this game. The senior competed for all of 90 minutes and did not miss a minute of action for her first win of the season.
Next up, The Owls will compete at Centenary College in Shreveport, La. on March 9 at 5:00 p.m.
