Baseball Finishes Third in Small College World Series

DUBOIS, Pa. – Owls baseball finishes third in the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) Small College World Series for the highest postseason finish in program history. On the fourth day of the SCWS, The W opened the day defeating Bryant & Stratton – Albany 21-3, but dropped the final game 8-3 to the No. 1 seed University of Cincinnati – Clermont.  The Owls close the season 21-13.

Trey Petite and Logan Suggs led the Owls offense in the quarterfinal game against Bratton & Stratton – Albany. Petite smacked two home runs to help secure The W's ticket into the semifinals. The Loxley, Ala. native had a 3-for-5 appearance with two RBIs and three runs for his best outing during the tournament.
 
Suggs had a great 4-for-5 game. The utility player from Columbus recorded a game-high 4 RBIs and tied for a game-high three runs.

Not to be outdone, three-time USCAA All-American Damain Benefield also knocked one out of the park for a 1-for-2 showing. The senior infielder tallied three RBIs while adding three runs to the score.  
On the mound, Joel Estabrook improved his pitching record to 4-2 in the victory. He faced 24 batters for four strikeouts, four hits, and no earned runs.

Kameron Ferguson closed the game with 1.0 innings pitched, two strikeouts, and three earned runs.

The Owls commanded the field in the rematch against the Bobcats for the 21-3 victory.

In the semifinals, The W started strong against UC – Clermont, outscoring the Cougars 2-1 in the first inning. After several no-score innings, Cincinnati had a robust fifth inning with seven runs scored.
Finding themselves down, the Owls attempted to rally back but added only one run in the sixth for the 8-3 loss.

Receiving his first loss of the season, Luke Hobson entered the game in the fourth inning to pitch 1.2. The Ripley, Miss. native faced nine batters for three hits against and five earned runs.
Starting the game, David Standifer pitched 3.0 innings for five hits against and one earned run.

At the plate, Hunter Harper led the offense with a 1-for-2 record for two RBIs. Benefield tallied one RBI in the matchup while Heath Ford had two runs.
