COLUMBUS, Miss. – For the fourth time this season, the Mississippi University for Women's volleyball team lost a match to a team with an unblemished record heading into a match, falling to Dillard University, 3-0, at Pohl Gym. The Owls (0-5) lost by set scores of 16-25, 18-15, 18-25 to the Bleu Devils (5-0).
Dillard, which is coming off of a pair of wins over NCAA Division I Alcorn State last week, hit an impressive .320 for the match versus MUW. The Owls were held to a .107 attack average versus DU's tall front line.
Maggie Griggs and
Jasmine Kelly each had five kills, accounting for 10 of The W's 24 total kills. Kelly hit .333 (1 error in 12 attempts), while Griggs turned in a .211 attack average (1 error; 19 attempts).
Llayne Skinner and
Camryn Johnson chipped in four and three kills, respectively.
Skinner served up four of The W's six aces as a team.
Defensively,
Madison Suggs led the back row corps with 10 digs and a .958 reception average, making just one error in 24 receiving tries. Skinner had seven digs, as well.
As a team, The W strung together a .906 receiving percentage. Conversely, The Bleu Devils managed just a .865 average versus the Owls' servers.
