COLUMBUS, Miss. - For the first time this season, the Mississippi University for Women men's soccer team lost two-consecutive games, after dropping Sunday's home tilt, 3-0, versus Rhodes College. The Owls slipped to 3-4 in 2021, while the Lynx upped their record to 6-3.
The two teams battled splendidly for the bulk of the first half, playing a scoreless contest. It wasn't until the 39th minute that RC broke the scoring seal that made it 1-0. Just three minutes later, the Lynx would tally again to make it 2-0, a lead which the guests took into the halftime locker room.
After permitting 16 shot attempts in the opening segment, The W's defense tightened in the second half by giving the Lynx just six shots and a single insurance goal in the 54th minute. In all, RC put six of its tries directly on-frame, resulting in three saves by Owls' sophomore goalkeeper
David McCutchen (Olive Branch, Miss.).
Junior
Kai VanCourt (Long Beach, Miss.), junior
Terrell Johnson (Jackson, Miss.), junior
Reggi Pech (Meridian, Miss.) and senior
Asahel Salgado (Dallas, Texas) all had shot attempts for MUW. Salgado's shot was on-goal and saved by the Lynx.
The Owls will be off until Friday (Oct. 1) when they travel to Oakwood University. Kickoff in Huntsville, Ala., is slated for 3 p.m.
