JACKSON, Miss. – Mississippi University for Women volleyball suffered a pair of defeats on the road on Friday evening, losing versus Maryville University, 3-0, and to host Belhaven University, 3-1. The Owls fell to 7-12 on the year.
Against the Scots (13-8), MUW lost by set scores of 25-15, 25-19, 25-19 in the neutral site match-up. Maryville separated from the Owls up front, producing an 11-3 advantage in blocks.
Maggie Grigg's six kills topped The W attack.
Micaela Hudgins added three kills, with no other Owl registering more than two kills.
Jasmine Kelly served up three aces. Hudgins had a pair of blocks.
Llayne Skinner and
Hannah Duran had 14 and 10 digs, respectively.
Duran added six assists.
Camryn Johnson topped the team with seven helps, as well as seven digs.
Libero
Maddy Suggs had a match-leading 23 digs.
In the nightcap versus the Blazers (6-11), MUW won the opening set, 25-19, before coming out on the short end of the next three sets, 23-25, 12-25, 20-25.
Skinner had a team-best seven kills for MUW, with
Zoe Hansen booking six kills. Hansen had a match-best .462 attack average.
Griggs had four of The W's eight aces in the match. Griggs also had four kills and eight digs.
Suggs led the backrow with 21 digs. Johnson and
Karmen McCrory had 13 and 10 assists, respectively.
Kelly and Hudgins each had three solo blocks.
The W will next be in action on Monday (Oct. 17), hosting Huntingdon College at Pohl Gym at 5 p.m.
