Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Owls nipped by Lynx, 1-0

COLUMBUS, Miss. – Mississippi University for Women women's soccer gave a strong effort to reversing its fortunes versus Rhodes College, but came out on the short end of a 1-0 score at the Lowndes County Soccer Complex. The Owls (6-6-1) battled the Lynx (8-3-1) the full 90 minutes, a far cry from their first meeting last season (a 9-0 Rhodes win in Memphis).

"I am so very proud of the girls tonight," MUW Head Coach Catie Lyles said. "We played well, but just couldn't get one in the net! The girls will take an off day tomorrow and come out ready to go Friday (versus Southwestern Adventist)."

Defense dominated the majority of the match, as Rhodes managed seven total shots and the Owls two attempts. The Lynx had five shots on-goal, compared to one for The W.  MUW goalkeeper Olivia Clark had four saves and permitted just the lone first half tally by RC.

The Lynx's Grace Culver converted a shot from 15 yards out in the 38th minute, going far post. Mary Gale Godwin assisted, as the Lynx made it 1-0.

Molly Moore had MUW's only shot on frame, which was saved by RC net-minder Maggie Wakefield just before the end of the first half. Kendry Crabtree had a try for The W, as well.

The Owls will next host Southwestern Adventist University on Friday at 10 a.m. It will be Senior Day for The W women, with ceremonies taking place post-game.
